Discover the Art of T'ai Ch'i

Undoing life's stressful conditioning

to reveal the joy at the heart of being alive.

Housing the essence of you, the body is a conscious instrument with so much to teach you if you will take the time to tune in. The practice of T'ai Ch'i offers a transformative experience of your relationship to being physical.

T'ai Ch'i is a profound art, it has existed for some centuries and offers a pathway into creating a living balance as the foundation for renewed health and vitality.

When practiced for health, T'ai Ch'i is a graceful form of exercise. It is often described as meditation in motion.

Founded upon martial principles that teach the wisdom of guiding inner power, the art of T'ai Ch'i has much to contribute to those seeking self-possession, emotional balance and a deeper faith in self.

Discover the myriad benefits of the art of T'ai Ch'i. A real treat for your body and energy system that can re-build confidence and resilience, mentally, emotionally and spiritually as well as physically.

This is your opportunity to discover the rudiments of Yang style T'ai Ch'i. The Yang style is the most popular and widely taught, consisting of slow, continuous, soft and circular movements in a flowing form.

As this is a summer course for beginners, the Yang short form will be explored, allowing you to build a practice at your own pace that will benefit you every single time you do it.

Annie Armit has been practising T'ai Ch'i for over 25 years, teaching previously in Wiltshire. She is also an energy system practitioner, an intuitive, a coach, a counsellor, and a psychotherapist, specialising in the resolution of trauma and the adaptations of self.

Her practice Equilibrium Consultancy & Development Ltd has been helping private clients and business leaders internationally for 30 years, cutting through complexity to the root cause of difficullty, to create profound, sustainable change and arrival into powerful authenticity in people's personal and professional lives. These influences feature in her understanding and teaching of T'ai Ch'i Chuan.

The practice of T'ai Ch'i is integral to Annie's work, with both working principles and physical embodiment, addressing some of the core challenges people are experiencing today, including fear, overwhelm, stress and burnout.

the view (see photos further below)!

PARKING

When you turn into Brightwell Vineyard, turn immediately into the winery on the right, passing
through the open five bar gate. Please park on the right hand side, on the grass, in front of the wall.
Kindly park considerately, square on to the wall, there will then be sufficient room for everyone
attending the class to park. Thank you!

The toilet block is accessible by walking past the large marquee visible in front of the winery.
Use the right hand door to enter the double door building. Please use considerately, thank you!

HOW TO REACH THE T'AI CH'I FIELD

Once you have parked the car, come back out through the five bar gate and cross over the road,
to come through the gate directly in front of you (signposted). PLEASE SHUT THE GATE AFTER YOU,
as there are resident dogs and cows in the vineyard. The resident dogs have a job to do, guarding
the property. Please walk calmly past them. (If you are anxious around dogs, please contact me

YOUR INSTRUCTOR:

ANNE ARMIT

I discovered T'ai Ch'i Ch'uan in 2000 and was intrigued from the outset by its gentle power to heal
and re-energise. I have been enjoying the practice ever since. It is quite simply a source of joy. I am
an intuitive and energy practitioner offering one-to-one consultations for those seeking to come into
flow. T'ai Ch'i is one strand of the multifaceted offerings of my work that invite the individual to undo
the unhelpful adaptations the challenges of life have created in us.

Working in depth with the deep design of being human, my work honours the sacred marriage of body
and soul. These influences feature in my understanding and teaching of T'ai Ch'i Chuan.

A profound art, T'ai Ch'i offers you and your body a wonderful opportunity to work with the
body's energy system. The gifts along this path are many - indeed, a treasure box awaits! A pathway
of personal transformation, T'ai Ch'i is an invitation into the dance of life itself. In my experience,
it leads to feeling light of heart and foot - something we can all benefit from, now more than ever.

I have had the pleasure of teaching classes and workshops in numerous venues and in some beautiful
locations over the years. So I was delighted to discover Brightwell Vineyard when I moved to Wallingford
in 2024. The rhythms of the vineyard and its cycles of life create the perfect setting for T'ai Ch'i, and we
are privileged to be welcomed by Carol and Bob Nielsen to explore T'ai Ch'i amongst the vines, nestled
by the woods.

If you have always wondered about T'ai Ch'i, I hope you will give yourself the gift of some time for yourself.
It's an opportunity to slow down and to forge a new connection with your body. The body itself will be
delighted as the practice of Ta'i Ch'i opens the energy gateways, allowing energy flow to improve and build.
Our energetic health is the foundation of all health - your body will thank you for it!

Further on, you can read some testimonials from past students - don't just take my word for it!

Hope to see you soon!

FAQs

Here are answers to some common questions.

T'ai Ch'i is a centuries-old, soft martial art that offers many benefits when practised slowly for health. Harnessing the energies of life and moving with the body and not despite it, T'ai Ch'i invites you into the dance of life itself.

It is a good idea to wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows free movement. For footwear, trainers or a lace up flat shoe/boot with flexible sole is advisable.

No, this is a beginner's class, introducing you to the art of T'ai Ch'i. Come and learn in a friendly, non-judgemental environment. An opportunity to slow down and give yourself the chance to explore something new rather than demanding results from yourself. Your body will thank you!

Slow, gentle movements are a key feature when practising T'ai Ch'i for health. These slow movements help to gently build muscle endurance, improving strength, flexibility, and balance.

Yes! The slow movements require your focus and presence and you will find that sessions leave you feeling calmer and more relaxed.

These classes are 90 minutes long, including a warm up at the start.

Improved balance, mobility, abdominal breathing leading to improved oxygenation, rejuvenation of energy systems including organs, mental clarity, emotional balance, reduced anxiety, to name a few.

Part of T'ai Ch'i is knowing and respecting your limits. You honour the body when you listen to these. This means starting slowly and working within your range of motion. Over time you will notice improvements.

There are toilets available at the winery near the car parking area. A compost toilet is currently under construction which will be more convenient to the area of the vineyard we are using for T'ai Ch'i. It will become available in due course.

Bring yourself - and a bottle of water.

What past attendees are saying

I attended several of Annie’s T’ai Ch’i workshops and courses.

They were all run at fabulous locations, specially selected by Annie for their settings.

Annie made everyone feel welcome and at ease. She is able to explain and demonstrate the moves in a number of ways to ensure everyone understands and gets the most out of each class.

The results are amazing and I would highly recommend them for all ages.

Lynda Like, Director, Grovely Business Solutions

T'ai Ch'i is a tonic for everyday life.

It is a joy to learn from such a strong, kind and spiritual teacher.

It is a truly mind, body and soul experience and makes you feel lifted after every session. It helps you learn about yourself, and you can go at your own pace.

Mrs F, Wiltshire

After leaving work and being on my feet all day, I feel like going home and putting my feet up, but instead I go to my T'ai Ch'i session, feeling very tired and heavy bodied. Surprisingly, after the session I feel re-energised, balanced, lighter and ready for anything!

Long term...I feel healthier in body and mind. It is definitely helping me on the path of self-discovery.

Annie has helped me out of an emotional pit and through a bereavement for which I am eternally grateful.  I am a much calmer person and feel more at peace within.
